Everything about Shawmila marketing

I bet you've heard of these two, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, a really cute couple. But there is a slight mistake in the previous sentence. They aren't a couple. Well, not really. Let me explain.

Since 2014, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello were already famous and friends. A great friendship that has had several rumors about dating each other.

The following year, the two released the song "I Know What You Did Last Summer" which heightened rumors and helped buzz the song numbers. As they didn't yet have great recognition at the time, the song didn't surpass #20 on the US charts.

Then, Camila had a huge hit with her number one song "Havana" and Shawn Mendes with his Top 10 hits "There's Nothing Holdin Me Back" and "Treat You Better".

The audience was already paying close attention to both of them and their friendship. They had an interview together, interacted on Twitter and it really felt like a great friendship. Nothing more than this. Camila even said she only saw him as a great friend.

And whenever they were in a relationship with other people, they never wanted to make it public.  

They have always been the kind of celebrities who like to leave their personal lives private. They never liked to expose themselves much, like kissing in public, especially Shawn.

That's when we started doubting about this "couple", and we started looking at the timeline of both and... BOOM!

Camila was dating weeks before releasing her new song with Shawn, "Señorita". The song was a smash. With the music video with sexiest scenes their fans and shippers went crazy.

A few days after the release the two were seen together. And again, and again. And kissing. What a strange kiss.

So far everything seems normal. Although, to celebrities who once enjoyed keeping their lives private, they seemed to enjoy being around so many paparazzi.

Yesterday, they were seen kissing on the beach of a hotel. To get in there, the paparazzi who took the pictures had to ask permission, or at least go through the hotel reception. There was no way he could get in. Unless... he was invited.

Invited by whom? Maybe Shawn's team, or Camila's team, or both teams.

If you don't know, one of the best marketing moves is making a couple of two famous people. Didn't get it? So let's talk about numbers. 

Shawn Mendes had 40M followers before Señorita, now he have almost 50M. Camila Cabello was 30M and is now over 36M. It's more than 6M for both in less than 2 months.

At Spotify, before the song release, they had less than 40M listeners and were out of the Top 15 of the most listened artists. Camila and Shawn now have 60M and 59M of listeners, being the #2 and #3 most listened artists on the platform respectively.

And you know what still generates more buzz and attention than the start of a relationship? A breakup. Let's keep watching.
